The Drew University women's soccer team will look to continue its recent run of success as it embarks on its 2025 season under second-year Head Coach
Brendan Michael.
The Rangers are coming off a stellar season in which they finished 9-7-4 and 4-3-2 in Landmark Conference play, good for a fourth-place finish in the conference standings. The team defeated Catholic 2-1 in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships to reach the semifinals of the conference tournament for the third year in a row.
The Blue and Green bring back 22 players from last season's team, including 10 who started at least one contest and 13 who played in at least 10 matches.
The Rangers return nearly their entire starting defensive group from a year ago, including junior goalie
Sarah Crowley. A two-year starter and the Landmark Conference Co-Rookie of the Year in 2023, she posted a 1.32 goals-against average and .740 save percentage a year ago while recording five shutouts.
Drew also returns three additional keepers in junior
Leael Avni and sophomores
Dani Iannelli and
Hayden Scotti.
On the back row, the Rangers bring four starters in sophomore
Bianca Anghelache, sophomore
Lillian Hedrick, senior
Kayla Kuncken, and senior
Francesca Veltri. Kuncken, who also scored a goal last season, and Veltri started all 20 matches a year ago while Anghelache made 19 starts. Hedrick appeared in 17 games and started 15 times in 2024.
Adding additional depth to the defense will be juniors
Georgia Cross and
Nicole Czarnecki, sophomores
Sadie Gregory and
Emily Wallace, and freshmen
Riley Bent,
Alexandria Foley,
Maddie Gottschling,
Andrina Ismail,
Lindsay Wittner.
Offensively, the Rangers face the challenge of replacing their top three scorers from last season, including three-time all-region selections
Alexa Krause and
Rebecca Racine. This season, junior forward
Maeve O'Murchu is the team's top returning scorer after netting three goals in 2024 while playing 19 matches and making six starts.
Numerous additional forwards return in 2025, including sophomore
Megan Jozak, who added one goal and one assist while appearing in 15 matches off the bench. Sophomore
Sophia Lara also returns playing in 18 matches as a reserve and scoring one goal while senior
Molly Kuhn, who played in 16 matches and made one start, contributed one assist.
Other forwards looking to make an impact include junior transfer
Caia Carlesimo, sophomore
Amel Morales, and freshmen
Gretchen Higgins,
Olivia Klein, and
Emma Ostervich.
In the midfield, senior
Aimee Barsa returns after starting all 20 matches in 2024. Sophomore
Kristina Lowe is also back after playing in every match and making 19 starts last season while junior
Ella Reyngoudt returns after appearing in 12 games and scoring one goal. In addition, sophomore
Zoey Pipher added one assist while playing in all 20 matches and making one start a year ago.
Also looking to make their mark in the midfield will be senior
Kati Matteson, sophomore transfer
Megan Fedish, and freshmen
Elyanna Lawler and
Maddy Rice.
In the Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, Drew was picked to finish sixth out of 10 teams. The top six teams in the conference standings qualify for the league's championship tournament.
The Rangers open the season on Friday, when they visit Manhattanville University at 6 p.m. in a non-conference tilt. Drew plays its home opener on Sept. 6 when it takes on Farmingdale State as part of the Drew Fall Festival while its Landmark Conference opener is set for Sept. 27 at home versus Goucher College.
