NEW YORK – Sophomore
Owen Browne placed third in the pole vault to lead the Drew University men's indoor track & field team at the Ramapo Season Opener on Friday.
In a meet consisting of Division I, II, and III competition, Browne tied his season-best with a clearance of 4.00 meters (13-1 1/2). He finished only behind Christopher Costa of Division II East Stroudsburg (4.60m) and Michael Croke of Division I Fordham (4.15m) and place in front of four other competitors, including the only other Division III vaulter in the field.
Junior
Tommy Edwards also posted a strong showing for the Rangers, placing 14th in a field of 43 in the mile (4:31.87). In addition, junior
Jeff Ayeh-Datey and freshman
Nathanrood Charles nearly placed in the top-half of the field in their events. Ayeh-Datey came in 23rd among 43 competitors in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.29 seconds, while Charles was 33rd in a field of 63 in the 400-meter dash, racing to a 54.32-second clocking.
Drew continues its season on Sunday with the Ursinus Collegeville Shootout.
