STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Drew University men's indoor track & field team competed in its first meet of 2026 on Friday at the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invitational, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Junior
Tommy Edwards posted the top performance for the Rangers, who took on Division I, II, and III schools along with unattached competitors. He placed fifth in a field of 54 in the mile, clocking a time of 4 minutes, 32.08 seconds. In the same event, sophomore
Matt Ellis came in 12th in 4:38.79.
Junior
Jeff Ayeh-Datey turned in a pair of impressive performances in the sprints for Drew. He placed 16th among 95 competitors in the 60-meter dash (7.16), and he took 32th in a field of 94 in the 200-meter dash (23.48).
Freshman
Erick Hernandez added a 19th-place finish among 60 competitors in the 800-meter run, clocking a 2:06.72, while classmate
Chris Tocci placed 29th in the same event with a time of 2:11.25.
The Rangers are back in action next Friday, when they compete at the Ramapo College Season Opener, held at the Armory in New York City.
