BALTIMORE – The Drew University men's fencing team finished 2-2 at a MACFA "A vs. C" event at Johns Hopkins University on Sunday.
The Rangers defeated Navy (18-9) and Maryland (25-2) but lost to a pair of nationally-ranked Division III programs in No. 2 Johns Hopkins (24-3) and No. 8 Haverford (16-11).
Leading the way for Drew, which was ranked No. 7 in the most recent Division III poll, finished 2-2 in each weapon as well. The Rangers finished 20-16 collectively in epee, with senior
Will Morton leading the way with a 7-5 record. Sophomore
Jackson Howard finished 5-4 while senior
Eddie Matto went 5-4. Sophomore
Lupo Sala added a 3-1 mark.
Drew also posted a 20-16 individual record in foil. Sophomore
Jason Sobon notched a 7-5 record while freshman
Nico Angelos went 6-6. Senior
Henri Degremont finished the day 5-1, including a 2-1 showing versus Haverford.
The sabre team, which earned a 6-3 win over Haverford, was paced by sophomore
Nicholas Machado, who finished 5-3 and was 2-0 against Haverford. Junior
Logan Kleva notched a 4-6 mark while sophomore
Jack Henderson finished 3-6. Both fencers were 2-1 against Haverford.
The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Haverford in a dual meet starting at 11 a.m.
