BALTIMORE – The Drew University women's fencing team captured two victories on Saturday at a MACFA "A vs. C" event at Johns Hopkins University on Sunday.
The Rangers, ranked No. 8 in the most recent USFCA Division III poll, recorded a 17-10 win over Haverford and a 20-7 triumph over Lafayette. Drew also lost 16-11 to Navy and 24-3 to Johns Hopkins, ranked No. 2 in Division III.
The foil unit posted the top performance of the day for Drew, finishing 3-1 on the day with wins over Haverford, Navy, and Lafayette. Sophomore
Filiz Erdogan led the way, going 6-2 on the day while posting perfect marks against Haverford (3-0) and Lafayette (2-0). Sophomore
Tala Varoqua went 4-4 on the day while senior
Nix Feeley was 3-3.
Drew finished 2-2 in sabre, including a 6-3 victory over Haverford. Freshman
Ava Insinga finished 6-4 while classmate
Sabrina Holmes was 4-3.
The epee squad contributed a 6-3 victory over Haverford. On the day, freshman
Emily Varhaul led the way with a 5-6 record, including a 3-0 showing against Haverford.
The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Haverford in a dual meet.
