STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Drew University men's track & field team competed in its final meet before the Landmark Confefrence Indoor Championships on Friday at the Fast Track Last Chance Meet, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
The meet featured a mix of Division II, III, community college, and unattached competitors.
Junior
Zach Mogambi posted a tremendous performance in the weight throw, taking third among 20 competitors with a launch of 15.62 meters (51-3), breaking his own school record by nearly two feet while finishing behind only a pair of athletes from Division II Georgian Court. Mogambi also took sixth in a field of 29 in the shot put (12.75 meters/41-10).
Several additional Rangers placed highly, including junior
Jeff Ayeh-Datey who came in 11th in a field of 65 in the 200-meter dash (22.39) and 12th out of 28 competitors in the 60-meter dash (7.13).
Junior
Tommy Edwards and sophomore
Matt Ellis each broke nine minutes in the 3,000-meter run. Edwards finished 18th in the field of 48 with a time of 8:57.90 while Ellis was 20th in 8:59.96.
Freshman
Nathanrood Charles added a 20th-place finish in a field of 42 in the 400-meter dash (53.55) while junior
Grailin Simmons contributed a 26th-place in the 200 (23.36).
Junior
Aidan Riccardo was the lone competitor in the pole vault, and he cleared 3.35 meters (10-11 3/4).
The Rangers continue their season next Saturday at the Landmark Conference Championships at Susquehanna University.
