MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's track & field team captured four individual events and won the team title at the Battle of Madison Avenue on Saturday at FDU-Florham.
The Rangers scored 140 points, 10 more than runner-up FDU. Farmingdale State (117) and Division II Dominican (99) rounded out the top-four in the seven-team field.
Junior
Zach Mogambi captured the discus with a launch of 46.46 meters (152-5), beating his nearest collegiate competitor by over nine feet.
Three other Rangers earned individual wins, including sophomore
Matt Ellis, who prevailed in a field of 13 in the 1,500-meter run (4:24.44). Junior
Tommy Edwards contributed a victory in the 5000-meter run (16:22.02), and classmate
Aidan Riccardo won the 100-meter hurdles while lowering his own school record to 16.47 seconds.
Sophomore
Owen Browne added a runner-up finish in a field of 16 while improving upon his own Drew record in the long jump with a leap of 6.55 meters (21-6). In addition, Mogambi took second in the shot put with a toss of 14.61 meters (47-11 1/4).
Posting one third-place finish each were senior
Dylan Crain in the 5000-meter run (16:53.98), sophomore
Olamilekan Olayiwola in the 400-meter dash (52.35), Ellis in the 800-meter run (2:05.21), Riccardo in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.06), freshman
Chris Tocci in the 1500-meter run (4:28.52), and Mogambi in the javelin (41.68/136-9).
The Rangers are back in action on Friday and Saturday, when they compete the Lehigh University Covert Classic.
