HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Junior
Zach Mogambi earned a medal in both of his events to lead the Drew University men's track & field team on Day One of the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday at Juniata College.
The Rangers scored 16 points and are in fifth place in the team standings, leading Juniata (15), Goucher College (5), and the University of Scranton (4).
Mogambi earned runner-up honors in the shot put with a toss of 14.43 meters (47-4 1/4), and he also captured the bronze medal in the hammer with a launch of 45.34 meters (148-9). The medals were the first at the Landmark Outdoor Championships in both events for Mogambi.
Sophomore
Owen Browne also scored points for the Rangers on Saturday, placing seventh in the pole vault with a height of 3.80 meters (12-5 1/2). He also came in 12th in the long jump with a leap of 6.00 meters (19-8 1/4).
Five other Rangers were in action on Saturday. Junior
Tommy Edwards placed 11th in the 1500-meter run (4:10.17) while senior
Dylan Crain placed 15th in the 10,000-meter run (34:47.84). Junior
Jeff Ayeh-Datey took 12th in the 100-meter dash (11.17) and 16th in the 200-meter dash (22.85) while junior
Grailin Simmons came in 21st in the long jump (5.46m/17-11). Freshman
Chris Tocci added a 22nd-place finish in the 1500 (4:24.68).
The second and final day of the championship begins on Sunday with field events at 11 a.m. and track events at noon.
