Drew Swim Shines in Big Weekend

Drew swimming had a great weekend in Pennsylvania as the Rangers picked up three wins over two days.  The women's team defeated both Juniata and King's while the men's squad picked up a win over King's as well.  The Rangers did drop decisions to Susquehanna in Saturday's tri-meet.  Kati Eggert won four events during the weekend and Graham Berstler highlighted the men's weekend with a blistering 100 Back victory.

The women's swimming team picked up its third win of the season with a 70-49 at Juniata on Friday night.  The Rangers had just three swimmers available due to injuries and academic responsibilities, but managed to win the meet thanks to victories in every event they entered.

Junior Kati Eggert won the 50 Free, 100 Fly and 100 Breaststroke.  Her 100 Breaststroke time of 1:26.58 (short course Meters) converts to a personal best and Drew All-Time Top Ten time of 1:17.58.

First-year Lindsay Root picked up wins in the 100 Back, 100 Free and 200 Free.  Sofia Quintanar won the 200 IM and placed third in the 100 Breaststroke.

The Saturday tri-meet with Susquehanna and King's was even better as the Rangers picked up another win to improve to 4-9 on the season, but more importantly continued to progress with two weeks until the Landmark Conference Championships.  The Rangers defeated King's 57-54, but lost to Susquehanna 80-31.

Eggert again came out victorious in the 50 Free with a 26.51 time.  She has won the event in six straight meets as she looks to improve upon her sixth place finish at last season's LC Championships.

Selena Davis continued her outstanding senior season by setting lifetime bests in both the 200 IM and 200 Backstroke.  The senior won the 200 IM with a time of 2:28.74 and placed second in the 200 Back with a 2:24.42.  At the other end of her career, first-year Lindsay Root put up a career best in the 100 Back with 1:06.65 to place second overall.

On the men's side, the Rangers split their twin-bill by defeating King's 93-16 and losing to Susquehanna 78-42.  Graham Berstler provided the highlight by winning the 100 Backstroke with the third fastest time in school history with a 57.60.  Berstler just joined the team at the end of the first semester, but has already established himself as a legitimate point winner in the sprint events.  He followed up his 100 Back win with a second place finish in the 50 Free, 24.74.  At Juniata on Friday, Berstler swam an exhibition 1:05.48 100 Fly that would have qualified for the Drew Top 10 as well.

Freshman Walter Bakun had another strong outing by setting personal bests in the 100 Back (58.93) and 100 Free (53.06) as he took second place in both events.  Jacob Grossman was rewarded for his hard work and vast improvement by cracking a Top 15 for the first time in his career with a 3:03 in the 200 Breaststroke.  John Feniello earned a second place finish in the 200 Free and Jeroen Fabricant was the leading qualifier in the 200 IM as Susquehanna had to exhibition a few swimmers.

The Rangers have one more dual meet before preparations for the LC's.  Drew will host Scranton on Saturday in the regular season finale at the Kirby Pool in the Simon Forum.
