#19 Cabrini Hands Drew First Loss

RADNOR, Pa. (March 20, 2010) – The Rangers (3-1) suffered their first setback of the season by losing 14-7 to #19 Cabrini today on Edith Robb Dixon Field. The Cavaliers came out firing and out-shot the Rangers 67-29. Senior Jon Bucknam (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) dished out two assists bringing his season total up to 10 and also added a goal in the loss.

The Cavaliers got on the board first when Casey Grugan found the back of the net 3:04 into the game. Cabrini would wind up scoring the first three goals of the contest. Sam Nepveaux (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) got Drew in the books with 1:07 remaining in the first period. Just 18 seconds later Greg Reading (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) found Bucknam to get the Rangers within a goal. Momentum seemed to be swinging Drew's way but with only :04 remaining in the quarter Grugan netted a goal to give the Cavaliers a 4-2 lead.

Cabrini would go on to score nine of the next ten goals to open up a 13-3 advantage in thefourth period. After getting shutout in the third period, Scott Humphreys (Wilmington, Del/Sanford School) helped end the Drew scoring drought by scoring back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter. Goals by Sean McGowan (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph's Metuchen and Zach Rapp (Dover, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) would help outscore the Cavaliers in the fourth period, 4-2.

For Cabrini Grugan netted a team-high four goals and also chipped in an assist. The all-time series is now in favor of Cabrini, 2-0. The Rangers lost last year at home 12-5.

The Rangers will play their home opener on Wednesday night under the lights at 7:00.
