Red Hawks Hold Rangers to Season-Low

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (March 30, 2011) - The Rangers fell to in-state foe Montclair St., 6-3 earlier this evening as they grabbed hold of the all-time series lead, 13-12. Drew (4-3) scored a season-low, three goals on 20 shots on goal. Netminder Charlie DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) tied a career-high making 17 saves in the loss.

The low scoring affair kept both teams within a goal of each other in the first 30 minutes to play. The Rangers found the back of the net first on Eric Tripp 's (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) fifth goal of the spring midway through the first quarter. Neither team would put a goal on the board for the remainder of the period.

Montclair St. (3-5) responded in the second quarter with two goals within a minute of each other. Red Hawk's attackman Matthew Prongay tied the game with 5:24 remaining in the half and just 57 seconds later Thomas Ring gave Montclair St. its first lead of the night.

Freshman Mark Barus (Jacobstown, N.J./Notre Dame) opened up the second half scoring with an unassisted goal with 5:35 left in the third period to tie the game up of the last time. The Red Hawks re-took late in the frame after cashing in on a Ranger penalty. Anthony Dzienkiewicz converted on the man-up opportunity with 3:34 left in the third to put the Red Hawks up for good.

Montclair St. would take over the the final quarter of play scoring three-straight goals, including Ring's second of the day with 7:22 left in the game. Drew added one more goal at the 5:21 mark when Andrew Somps (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) found Scott Humphreys (Wilmington, Del./Sanford School) for the third Ranger goal.

Sean McGowan (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph) had a another stelar game in the faceoff circle, winning 7-of-13 attempts and scooping up a game-high seven ground balls. Coming into the game the junior ranked fourth in the country in ground balls per game.

The Rangers will open up thier Landmark Conference schedule on Saturday when they travel down to Washington, D.C. to take on Catholic University.
