Crusaders Snap Ranger Win Streak

MADISON, N.J. (April 22, 2011) – Drew (8-5-2-4 Landmark) had their four-game winning streak snapped this afternoon by Susquehanna (9-5, 2-2 Landmark) who pulled out a 10-7 win in Ranger Stadium. The win puts the Crusaders in sole possession of third place in the Landmark.

Susquehanna scored five of the game's first six goals, opening up a 5-1 lead for the Crusaders at the end of the first period. Local product, Luke Delaven (Madison, N.J./Madison) scored all three of his goals in the first period for the visiting team.

As they've done for most of the season the Rangers defense clamped down and were able to pitch a shutout in the second period of play enabling them to climb back into the game. Drew scored the game's next four goals, with three of them coming in man-up situations, notching the game up at five with 8:13 left in the third period. Junior Sean McGowan (Milltown, N.J./Saint Joseph's) netted the his 15th and 16th goals of the season on the run and finished with a game-high nine ground balls.

Despite holding the Crusaders to five goals in the final three periods, the Rangers offense struggled get a ball past goalkeeper Jordan Daney. Drew could not take advantage of its opportunities, outshooting the Susquehanna 50-26. Daney stopped 10 of the 17 shots on net for his third win of the season.

Freshman Andrew Somps (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) who came into the game ranked seventh in the Landmark in assists, dished off two more and added a goal to bring his season point total up to 32.

With the loss the Rangers will not have a shot at hosting a Landmark Conference playoff game and will clinch a playoff berth with a win next Saturday against Goucher or a loss by Scranton in either of its two games remaining against Goucher and Catholic.

The Rangers final regular season game will be against Goucher on Saturday in Towson, Maryland. Game time is set for 1:00 in Gopher Stadium.
