MADISON, N.J. (January 28, 2012) – Prior to the Rangers final meet of the season, the Rangers honored their three seniors,
Adam Nelson (Neptune, N.J./Neptune), Marissa Kraynak (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley) and
Jasmine Prokscha (Washington, Conn./Kent) but ultimately the men and the women fell to conference leading Scranton at F.M. Kirby Pool.
The Ranger men struggled to keep pace with the Royals, who won their ninth dual meet of the season and improved to 5-1 in the Landmark Conference with a 165-63 victory of the Rangers. The Scranton women wrapped up their undefeated season with a 158-62 win over Drew. The Royals went 11-0 on the year and 7-0 in the Landmark Conference.
Freshman
Clayton Curran (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) provided a spark to the Drew squad has he had the only first place finish of the afternoon for the hometown Rangers. Curran won the 200 freestyle by almost four seconds with a lifetime best time of 1:51.96. He later put four more points on the board for the Rangers with a second place finish in the 100 butterfly and season best time of 56.41.
Sophomore
Austin Goetjen (Simsbury, Conn./Avon Old Farms School) turned in a third place finish and more importantly a lifetime best in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.92. Another bright spot for the men was
Niklas Andersen (Medham, N.J./Gill St. Benards) who was credited with second in the 200 backstroke with a career best time of 3:02.72.
On the women's side,
Mariel Schwinger (Los Angeles, Calif./Sherman Oaks) cleaned up in distance freestyle, winning both the 1000 and the 500. Her time of 5:30.44 was her fastest of the year while her 1000 time of 11:20.23 was three seconds better than second place finisher Colleen Logan. Seniors Kraynak and Prokscha each had a season best swim in their final dual meet in Madison. Kraynak posted a time of 1:57.93 in the 200 backstroke while Prokscha finished third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:51.46.
The Rangers will begin preparations for the Landmark Conference Championships which will be held for the first time at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa. on February 10
th.
