Rangers Set New School Mark in OT Thriller

Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. (March 17, 2012) – The Rangers improve to 5-0, the best start in school history, with a 10-9 overtime win over Susquehanna on the road. Drew scored the game's last two goals including the game-winner with 3:16 left in overtime by sophomore Mark Barus (Jacobstown, N.J./Notre Dame).

Susquehanna was looking for their third-straight win over the Rangers while the Rangers were looking to avenge a 10-7 loss in Madison that caused the Rangers to sit out their first Landmark Conference postseason last year.

After scoring 13 goals in the first 30 minutes of play the two teams combined for just five goals in the second half. The Rangers owned a 7-6 halftime advantage thanks in part to a hat trick from sophomore Andrew Somps (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme). Susquehanna's Austen Lein recorded two goals in the first half of play, including a man-up goal to give the Crusaders a 6-5 lead with 5:41 remaining in the frame.

The Rangers opened up the second half with the second goal of the game by midfielder Sean McGowan (Milltown, N.J./St. Joesph) to give the visitors an 8-6 lead. The Crusaders marched right back with three-straight goals and took a 9-8 lead just 1:11 into the fourth period.

Less than a minute later the Rangers tied the game back up on an unassisted goal by Henry Warner (Chevy Chase, Md./Saint James School). Neither team registered another score for the final 13 minutes of regulation sending the game to overtime. Susquehanna goaltender Jordan Daney made five of his eight saves in the fourth period alone to keep the game knotted at nine.

Barus connected on his third shot of the game with 3:18 left in overtime to score his fifth goal of the season. Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School), McGowan and Warner each finished with a pair of goals in the Ranger win.

McGowan won a season-high 16 faceoffs, going 16-24 while scooping up a game-high 11 groundballs. The 11 groundballs moves him into sixth all-time in Drew history with 287, passing Brian Loos C'95 who had 282.

Senior Charlie DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made 10 saves to earn his fifth win of the season.

The Rangers will look for their sixth-straight win when they take on Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
