MADISON, N.J. (March 27, 2012) – Four goals by Montclair St. (3-5) in the third period proved to be the difference as the Red Hawks defeated the Rangers, 11-8 in Ranger Stadium this evening. The loss drops the Rangers to 5-3 on the year and 1-3 at home.
Junior
Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School) led the Ranger offense with three goals on the night.
Andrew Somps (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and
Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) each added two goals.
For the Red Hawks, senior Tyler Meth found the back of the cage five times on nine shots. Freshman Michael Schreck added three goals and recorded two assists to help Montclair to its third win of the season.
The Red Hawks came out of halftime firing, scoring four consecutive goals including a score down a man by Meth with 12:39 left in the period. A man-up goal with 6:30 remaining in the frame by John Barney gave the Red Hawks an 8-4 advantage, their largest of the game.
Tallies by Somps and Humphreys got the Rangers within two but Montclair was able to match the Rangers with three goals in the final 15 minutes of the game. Red Hawk goaltender, Mark Glander did not make it easy on the Ranger offense, stopping 17 shots. Senior
Charlie DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made 10 saves for the Rangers in a losing effort.
The Rangers will get back to Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Scranton. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Scranton, Pa.
