Rangers Roar Back for Second Conference Win

Box Score
SCRANTON, Pa. (March 31, 2012) – Down two goals at the break, the Rangers scored four-straight goals in the second half to defeat Scranton (5-2, 1-1 Landmark), 10-8 on the road this afternoon. The win ended a three-game losing streak, improving the Rangers to 6-3 on the year and 2-1 in Landmark Conference play.

The Drew comeback was keyed by an outstanding defensive effort. Goalkeeper Charlie DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made nine of his 11 saves over the last two periods, allowing only one goal in the final 30 minutes.  The Ranger defense also killed all of the six Royal extra-man opportunities in the contest.

Trailing 7-5 at halftime, the Rangers rattled off four-straight goals including the go-ahead goal by Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) off an assist by Eric Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) with 8:46 left in the game. Senior Nicholas Della Fera (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) then found Steve Gentile to put the Rangers up 9-7 just 33 seconds later.

Scranton's only goal of the second half came from Taylor Nelson with 7:54 remaining in the game. Della Fera put the Rangers back up by two with an unassisted goal at the 2:25 mark for his third point of the afternoon. Junior Steve Gentile (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) and Mark Barus (Jacobstown, N.J./Notre Dame) each put together two-goal efforts to aid the Rangers come-from-behind victory.

The Royals were led junior by Dillon McIerney who scored on four of his five shot attempts. The junior scored three of his four goals in the second period, giving the Royals their last lead of the game with 4:23 left in the first half.

The Rangers will continue their Landmark Conference schedule on Thursday when they take on the Cardinals of Catholic University on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
