Big First Half Leads Rangers to Fifth-Straight Win

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (April 18, 2012) – Seven first-half goals led the Rangers to an 11-7 win over Centenary College (4-8) this afternoon on Cyclone Field. Sophomore Mark Barus (Jacobstown, N.J./Notre Dame) tied a career-high with three goals to help improve the Rangers to 10-3 on the season.

Senior Sean McGowan (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph), Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) and Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School) each had two goals as the Rangers cruised for their seventh road victory of the year. The Rangers are unbeaten away from Ranger Stadium this season.

The Cyclones scored the game's first goal but would not hold another lead for the rest of the contest. Nicholas Della Fera (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) tied the game up in the first period and the two teams exchanged goals before Barus made the score 3-2 with his first goal of the day late in the first quarter.

The Rangers rattled off four goals in the second period alone to take a 7-4 lead into halftime. The Drew defense pitched a shutout in the third quarter and allowed only two more goals to help the offense pull away late in the game. Starting goalkeeper Charlie DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made eight saves to earn the victory.

McGowan won the faceoff battle for the Rangers, winning 13-of-19 draws and scooped up a game-high 12 ground balls. Defenseman Alex Braunstein (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) recorded a career-high four caused turnovers had picked up two ground balls to anchor the Ranger defense.

Drew reached the double-digit win plateau for the first time since 2008. The school record for wins in a season is 12, which was done three times all under the direction of Head Coach Tom Leanos.

The Rangers will look to continue their winning streak this weekend with a non-conference game against Elizabethtown at 3:30 in Ranger Stadium. The Rangers will celebrate senior day prior to the contest.
