MADISON, N.J. (April 21, 2012) – In their final home contest of the season, the Rangers used a five-goal third period to power an 11-7 victory over Elizabethtown (7-7) this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers tied a program best with their 11
th regular season win, improving to 11-3 on the year.
After playing to a 5-4 score at the half, the Rangers exploded for five third period goals to take a 9-5 lead after 45 minutes of play. In the frame, five different players registered a goal as the balanced Ranger attack slowly pulled away from the Blue Jays.
Senior
Sean McGowan (Milltown, N.J./St. Joseph) had another outstanding effort in the faceoff circle, winning 17 of the 19 draws. Prior to the contest he came in ranked seventh in the nation in faceoff percentage. The midfielder scooped up 14 ground balls and was the team's top scorer with three goals.
Fellow senior
Nicholas Della Fera (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) connected on two of his seven shots for his 14
th and 15
th goals of the season. Freshman
Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) also found the back of the cage twice to round out the Rangers scoring.
The Ranger defense, anchored by senior
Dominick Reda (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial), caused 11 turnovers. He and sophomore
Nat Putnam (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) combined for five of the 11 caused turnovers on the day.
The Rangers will play their final game of the season on the road against Washington & Jefferson on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Rangers are 7-0 on the road this season have never finished a season undefeated away from home since the program's inception.
