WASHINGTON, Pa. (April 28, 2012) – The Rangers wrapped up their regular season this afternoon with a 17-8 victory over Washington & Jefferson College (5-11, 1-5 Landmark). The win improved the Rangers to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in Landmark Conference play.
Last Saturday's victory over Elizabethtown tied the school record for regular season victories and today's win set a new program mark. The Rangers have won 12 games in a season four times prior to this year, which includes postseason play.
The Rangers never relinquished the lead in the contest, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first period of play. Both teams exploded for a combined nine goals in the second quarter, with the Presidents scoring five of them.
Drew took control of the game in the third period, scoring six goals compared to just one by Washington & Jefferson. Senior Sean McGowan scored a game-high four goals and added an assist. For the sixth-straight game the midfielder scooped up 10 or more ground balls, picking up 14.
The Rangers strung together eight-consecutive goals in the second half with three of them coming from junior Eric Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove). Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School) and freshman Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) each registered two goals in the contest.
Senior goalkeeper Charlie DeSocio (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) made nine saves in 51 minutes of action. He was relieved by Kyle Mariboe (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) who made a season-high four saves.
The Rangers who had already secured the second seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference regardless of today's outcome will take on Scranton who defeated Catholic this afternoon. Game time is set for 7:00 at Ranger Stadium on Wednesday night.
