MADISON, N.J. (November 26, 2013) – The Drew University women's swim team won their first Landmark Conference meet today with a 107-96 victory over Susquehanna this afternoon at F.M. Kirby Pool. The Ranger men suffered a 130-45 loss at the hands of the Crusaders.
The Ranger women improve to 2-5 on the season and 1-2 against Landmark opponents. The men drop to 0-7 on the season, with three losses to league opponents this season.
Senior
Mariel Schwinger (Los Angeles, Calif./Sherman Oaks) covered a lot water en route to two first place finishes on the afternoon. She touched first in both the 500 freestyle and the 1000 freestyle with season best times. Her 1000 time of 11:25.37 and her 500 time of 5:33.56 were the fifth fastest times in the Landmark this season.
Classmate
Jess Harrington (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was also a double-winner, taking home victories in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. She was able to hit the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 26.05 and a time of 1:03.09 in the 100 backstroke.
Freshman
Tori Braun (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) posted a season-best time of 2:22.19 to win the 200 individual medley. It was also the seventh-best time in the conference this season.
The Rangers closed out the meet with their best 400 freestyle relay time of the season.
Harrington, Schwinger,
Kristin Zeigler (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and
Jordon Jessup (Port Hueneme, Calif./Oxnard) all helped post a time 3:49.55.
For the men,
Thomas DiGuglielmo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) was the only event winner, winning the 100 breaststroke. His time of 1:04.43 was four seconds faster than any other competitor in the race.
The Drew swim programs will host the three-day Ranger Invitational next weekend. Competition will begin on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. at F.M. Kirby Pool.
