Swimming Swept by Marywood in Landmark Opener

MADISON, N.J. ( November 11, 2013) – Both the Drew men's and women's swim teams suffered losses to Marywood University today at F.M. Kirby Pool today. The Drew women were edged, 109-96 while the men were defeated 147-48.

The losses drop the Drew men to 0-4 on the season and women to 1-4. The Pacer men improved to 4-2 and 1-1 in Landmark while the Marywood women move to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Landmark. The Pacers have now won both  matchups against the Rangers since becoming a member of the Landmark Conference.

The Drew women put together another strong performance but came up short. Senior Jess Harrington (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) came .73 seconds away from breaking her own school record in the 100 backstroke. She won the event and posted the second fastest time in the Landmark this season, touching the wall with a 1:02.94. Freshman Tori Braun (Pittstown, N.J./North Hunterdon) finished second in the event with a time of 1:05.69. In the closest race of the day, Braun picked up a victory in the 200 individual medley, winning by .03 seconds with a time of 2:27.53. The time was the 6th best in the Landmark this season.

The Rangers went 1-2 again in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Karina Urquhart (Sanford, Maine/Sanford) just out-touched teammate Jessica Shannon (Williamstown, N.J./ Gloucester County Institute of Technology) with a time of 1:06.09.
Sophomore Kristin Zeigler (Collgeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) won her first event of the fall, coming in first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:10.10.

For the men, Thomas DiGuglielmo (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.34. A season best for the senior,  the time was the 8th best in the conference this season. Classmate Austin Goetjen (Simsbury, Conn./Avon Old Farms School) touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle, with a time of 23.86.

The Rangers will continue Landmark Conference action next Saturday when they travel to the Nation's Capital to take on Catholic University. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
