Rangers Place Seventh at EWFC Championships

BALTIMORE, Md. (February 10, 2012) – The Drew women's fencing team struggled this afternoon, finishing seventh in the annual EWFC Dual Meet Championship at Johns Hopkins University. The only highlight of the day was produced by the sabrists who posted a 3-3 record on the afternoon.

The Rangers were edged by Yeshiva, 14-12 and Hunter 13-11 in the closest bouts of the day. The Rangers came up short against Haverford, 23-4, Stevens, 22-5, Johns Hopkins, 25-2 and City College of New York, 19-8.

Freshman Sarah Silvestri (Newfoundland, N.J./West Milford) put together an impressive performance winning 13 of 15 bouts at the sabre.  Silvestri now has a team-high 44 wins on the season boasting a 44-35 record.

Senior Emilia Domanowski (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) helped the Drew sabrists to a 3-3 team record by putting together an 8-7 day.

Melissa Mascarenhas (Linden, N.J./Linden) and Jeana Wunderlich (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) both were totaled six wins on the afternoon in the foil.

The Rangers will travel to nearby Stevens on Sunday for the EWFC Individual Championships.
