Box Score MADISON, N.J. (April 17, 2013) – The Swarthmore College Garnet (4-8) waited a year to avenge an overtime loss in 2012 to the Drew men's lacrosse team. Today they got their revenge in Ranger Stadium with 17-8 win over the Rangers, dropping them to 2-9 on the season.
The Swarthmore defense held the Rangers to just two goals in the first half, despite the Rangers holding a 42-35 shot advantage in the game. Garnet starting goalkeeper Jonathan Cohen made 14 saves in the contest, including 11 in the first half.
The Garnet offense took advantage of the stellar defense scoring 10, first-half goals. Swarthmore pulled away in the second quarter, scoring the six the final seven goals to take a 10-2 edge into halftime.
Three players for Swarthmore recorded hat tricks. Ian Lukasezewicz notched a game-high seven goals and assisted on one other. Jonathan Molloy totaled six points scoring three times and dishing off three assists. Steve Selverian found the back of the cage three times to round out the Garnet scoring.
The Rangers offense awoke in the second half but were still outscored by Swarthmore, 7-6. Sophomore
Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) had a team-high four goals for the Rangers. Freshman
AJ Wilcox (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) recorded his first career goal in the fourth quarter.
A game which saw 19 penalties favored the visiting Garnet. Swarthmore scored on six of their nine man-up opportunities. The Rangers were dominant in the face-off circle, winning 20-of-29 draws. Freshman
Kevin Cleary (Oakland, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) won 11 of the 14 face-offs he took and scooped up a game-high seven ground balls.
The Rangers will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome in Vassar College. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Ranger Stadium.
