Rangers Roll Past Brewers For Third Win

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (April 20, 2013) – Squaring off for the first time in eight years, the Drew University men's lacrosse team was able to defeat Vassar College (2-9) by the score of 12-9 this afternoon at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers improve to 3-9 on the season and 3-0 all-time against the Brewers.

Senior Eric Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) continued his hot play, registering a career-high four assists while scoring two goals. He has 19 points in his past four games and now leads the team with 16 assists on the season. Sophomore Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) scored four goals for the second time in as many games and also recorded an assist. Senior Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School) rounded out the Drew scoring with his fourth hat trick of the year.

The two teams battled over the first 30 minutes of play with the lead changing hands four times. Junior Mike Marone (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton) gave the Rangers a 5-4 lead at the half on his only goal of the contest. That would be the start to a three-goal spurt by the Rangers, with Lamon opening the second half with a pair of goals , giving the Rangers a 7-4 lead with 8:40 to play in the third.

Vassar pulled within a goal early in the fourth quarter on Noah Parson's second goal of the afternoon with 11:47 left to play in the game. The Rangers put the game away for good when Humphreys found the back of the net on back-to-back possessions. The fourth-quarter run was capped by a man-up goal by Tripp with 4:55 remaining.

Junior Kyle Mariboe (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) came on in the second half for the Rangers and stopped a team-high five shots. Senior Andrew Goldberg (Randolph, N.J./Newark Academy) was credited with his third win of the spring making three, first-half saves.

The Rangers will be back in action on Wednesday to take on RPI in Madison. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Ranger Stadium.
