Rangers Win First Conference Game in 3OT Thriller

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 6, 2013) – The Drew men's lacrosse team picked up its first Landmark Conference win and snapped a five game losing streak with a, 12-11 win over Catholic University (5-7, 0-2 Landmark) in triple overtime.

Junior Mike Marone (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton) netted the game –winner with 2:17 left in the third overtime, improving the Rangers two 2-6 on the season and 1-3 conference play.

After taking a 10-5 lead into the final quarter of play, Catholic staged a furious comeback and scored six fourth quarter goals, tying the game at 12 at the end of regulation. Brendan Englert scored all three of his goals on the day in the final period including the tying goal with 2:34 remaining in the game.

Senior Scott Humphreys (Newark, Del./Sanford School) led the Rangers attack, scoring three goals and assisting on two others. Steve Gentile (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills). scored twice and has now registered a goal in each of his last four games and is tied for the team lead with 12 scores on the year. Sophomore Patrick Lamon (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) and senior Eric Tripp (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) each added two goals and two assists in the contest.

Englert fired a game-high 16 shots and also chipped in a pair of assists for the Cardinals. Catholic held a 54-47 edge in total shots on the day. Freshman Kevin Cleary (Oakland, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) had his best game of the season in the face-off circle winning 14-of-23 and scooping up a game-high seven ground balls.

Senior Andrew Goldberg (Randolph, N.J./Newark Academy) put together a career performance, making 20 saves. The 20 stops is the most by a Drew goaltender since 2005 when Jason Woodford made 21 saves in back-to-back games.

Drew will be in Ranger Stadium on Monday night to take on Kean University at 7:00 p.m.
