WASHINGTON, D.C. (Nov. 15, 2014) – Both Drew University swimming teams dropped dual matches on Saturday. The women fell 122 – 51 and the men 139 - 50 The meet was highlighted by junior
Mike Smoliga and sophomore
Peter Mari who each contributed to multiple first place finishes.
The men's 400-yard freestyle relay belonged to Drew. The team of sophomore
Bobby DeMarco, Mari, Smoliga and freshman
Sebastiano Pigazzi combined for a time of 3:24.25 and a first place finish. The group victory earned them 11 points.
Mari found himself on top of the leaderboard as an individual as well. He posted a 1:08.43 time in the men's 100-yard breaststroke. The performance was worthy of nine points.
Sophomore
Lindsay Pearce excelled as well. She earned nine points and in the women's 100-yard breaststroke, finished in 1:12.65.
The 100-yard backstroke saw Drew succeed as well. This time, freshman
Jenny Stein was the victor. Her chart-topper was a 1:06.48 performance that garnered another set of nine points.
Smoliga didn't just get it done as a part of a team but individually was well. He hit the men's 50-yard freestyle with a 23.96 time, another nine-pointer.
Both the women and men's records have dropped to 0-5. The teams will look to right the ship when they travel to Elizabethtown to take on the Blue Jays in another dual meet set to begin on November 21
st at 6:30.
