PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2014) – The Drew University men's and women's fencing teams opened the 2014-15 season at the Temple University Open on Saturday and Sunday among a number of powerful NCAA Division I fencing programs.
Junior
Sarah Silvestri paced the Rangers with the highest finish of the weekend on Sunday by placing 23
rd out of 84 fencers in a competitive sabre field. Freshman
Amelia Breckenridge finished tied for 71
st, while sophomore
Keah Liu was 82
nd in the weapon.
Sophomores
Ivy Wong and
Kelsey Oeler advanced deep into the individual foil tournament and left Temple with a pair of top 50 finishes. Wong was 49
th and Oeler was right behind in 50
th out of 88 fencers in the foil field.
Sophomore
Zining Cheng and
Anna Scheckel began their Drew fencing careers with 77nd and 80
th place finishes, respectively, out of 92 in the epee.

Sean McAuliffe in the epee event at the Temple Open. Orozco finished his Drew debut with a 50
th place finish out of 89 fencers, while McAuliffe began his final campaign as a Ranger right behind in 53
rd. Newcomer sophomore
Christian Dugan was tied for 54
th to round out a successful epee showing by the Drew men.
Senior
William Hollwedel was tied for 62
nd of 83 fencers in the foil, while sophomores
Jeffrey Lipay (tied for 71
st) and
Ian Ratcliffe (tied for 86
th) in the 91-fecer sabre field in Philadelphia.
