DANBURY, Mass. (Dec. 18, 2014) – Freshman defender
Michele Pozyc of the Drew University field hockey team capped a sensational rookie campaign with a selection to the ECAC Division III South All-Stars Second Team, announced by the conference office today.
Pozyc, the 2014 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, completed a historic season playing defense for the Rangers. She has already left her mark on the Drew record books by breaking a 10-year old school record with 17 defensive saves this fall. Pozyc already ranks fourth on the career defensive saves list.
The 17 defensive saves also set a new Landmark Conference record, with Pozyc recording multiple defensive saves in four games. In Drew's contest against then-No. 3 Montclair State University, Pozyc made four defensive saves. Pozyc recorded at least one defensive save in five straight games this season from Aug. 31 to Sept. 17.
Pozyc showed versatility in her game by moving forward on penalty corner plays and directing the majority of the plays from the point position and receiving the insert. She picked up three assists during her freshman campaign, including two in conference play.
In addition to the All-Star nod and the Rookie of the Year honor, Pozyc was voted a Landmark All-Conference Second Team performer for her work this season wearing Blue & Green. She was also named Drew field hockey's representative on the Landmark Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.
The Rangers finished the 2014 season with a 4-12 overall record and 2-5 mark in Landmark Conference play.
