Box Score Washington, Pa. (March 15, 2014) – The Drew University picked up its first Landmark Conference victory this afternoon with a, 12-6 victory over Washington and Jefferson College. Eight different Rangers scored a goal in the victory.
Seniors
Mark Barus (Jacobstown, N.J./Notre Dame) and
Andrew Somps (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) combined for six goals in the victory for the Rangers. Barus and Somps each recorded their first hat-tricks of the season.
In a low scoring first quarter, Barus tallied the game's first goal with 2:38 left to play in the quarter, as he beat his man down the left alley and placed a shot just inside the right pipe. The Presidents answered with their first goal of the game with 50 seconds left of the quarter. With 7:08 left in the first half Somps, scored his first goal of the game, giving the Rangers a, 2-1 lead. Washington and Jefferson scored the final two goals of the half to take a, 3-2 lead into the break.
The Rangers started the half scoring four consecutive goals in a three minute span to take a 6-3 lead. Somps scored his second of the day just 21 seconds into the start of the half. Two minutes later senior captain
Mike Marone (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton) found a cutting Barus wide open in front of the net. Just six seconds later sophomore
Kevin Cleary (Oakland, N.J./Saint Joseph Regional) won a faceoff forward, scooped up a groundball a found Marone in front of the cage. Marone finished the day with one goal and two assists. The Rangers outscored the Presidents, 10-3 in the second half of the contest.

Nate Kotarra (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) scored his first goal on the season for Drew in the win. Junior
Hutch Fisher (West Hartford, Conn./Conard), sophomore
Steven Cola (Cross River, N.Y./John Jay) and freshmen
Tom Cotroneo (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and
Michael Lloyd (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) each scored one goal for the Rangers.
Senior goalkeeper
Kyle Mariboe (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) recorded his second win of the season. Mariboe allowed five goals and made 13 saves for the Rangers in the win.
The Rangers return to action on Wednesday March 19 at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to Pennsylvania for a non-conference contest with Swarthmore College. The Garnet defeated the Rangers 15-8 last season.
