(March 29, 2014) – The Drew University men's lacrosse team (3-6, 1-2) dropped its sixth game of the season and second in conference with an 11-3 loss to Goucher College (4-5, 2-1) this afternoon in Ranger Stadium. Goucher is undefeated against Drew in their last seven meetings.
Sophomore
Steven Cola (Cross River, N.Y./John Jay) led the Rangers offense scoring the only two goals of the game for the team. Cola scored his first goal in the second quarter and his second goal in the fourth quarter.
The Rangers and Gophers played each other to a 0-0 tie at the end of the first quarter. Goucher outshot the Rangers 10-6 in the period. The Gophers got on the board first at the 11:02 mark in the second quarter. Drew countered on Cola's first goal of the game as he swept across the middle of the field and stung a shot just over the goalie's left shoulder. Goucher scored the final two goals of the half taking a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Goucher scored the only three goals of the third quarter entering the fourth quarter with a 7-1 lead. Goucher attackman Max Roach scored his third goal of game for the Gophers on their 3-0 third quarter run. The Gophers scored their sixth straight goal to open the fourth quarter at the 14:25 mark. Cola ended the Goucher scoring streak a minute later with his second of the game. Junior
Greg Dwyer (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored his first goal of the season for the Rangers in the game.
Kyle Mariboe (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) made his eighth start of the season in between the pipes this afternoon for the Rangers. The senior goalkeeper made 14 saves and allowed nine goal in the loss.
Drew returns to action on Saturday April 5 at 1:00 p.m. as they travel to Pennsylvania for a conference clash with Scranton.
