Box Score Troy, N.Y. (April 26, 2014) – Drew men's lacrosse (5-9) suffered its ninth loss of the season this afternoon to RPI (11-4) by a score of 17-6 in their regular season finale out in Troy, N.Y. The Rangers wrapped up their regular season and will travel to Selinsgrove, Pa. for a Landmark Conference Semifinal contest with Susquehanna on Wednesday April 30 at 4:00 p.m.
Junior attackman
Greg Dwyer led the Ranger attack scoring two goals on five shots this afternoon. Senior
Craig Wagenblast finished his day also scoring two goals out of the Ranger midfield. Senior
Andrew Somps helped pace the Ranger offense dishing out four assists.
RPI started their offensive explosion just 1:47 into the game when Aaron Shavel scored an unassisted goal. The Rangers answered three minutes later tying the game 1-1 on a
Mike Marone unassisted goal. Marone swept across the left side and fired a shot from downtown beating the goalie to the lower-right corner. The Engineers scored the final three goals of the quarter taking a 4-1 lead at the end of one. Wagenblast scored his first of the day two minutes into the second pulling the Rangers with two, 4-2, with 13:07 left to play in the half. RPI responded scoring seven unanswered goals, taking a 9-2 lead into the halftime break.
The Engineers continued their offensive output scoring the only six goals of the third quarter. RPI scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to open up a 16-2 lead. Drew scored four unanswered goals in an eight minute span in the fourth quarter.
Aaron Davis scored his 11th goal of the season to start the Ranger run. Wagenblast and Dwyer rounded out the scoring for the Rangers on the afternoon.
Senior
Kyle Mariboe made his 12th start of the season in goal for the Rangers on the afternoon. Mariboe allowed nine goals while making 10 saves playing in the first half of the contest. Freshmen netminders
Teddy Sweeney and
Harry Litchfield each played a quarter in the second half for Drew. The freshmen goalkeepers combined eight saves in 30 minutes of work.
Drew returns to action in the Landmark Conference playoffs with a Seminfinal contest against Susquehanna on April 30, at 4:00 p.m. The Crusaders defeated the Rangers 17-4 in the first meeting between the two schools back on March 22.
