MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's swimming & diving team won 10 of 16 events en route to a sweep of Marywood University and Susquehanna University in a tri-meet on Saturday at Kirby Pool.
The Rangers (3-1) defeated Marywood 198-72 and Susquehanna 163-116 and is now on a three-meet winning streak.
Junior
Michael Ma won three individual events to lead Drew, which earned its first victory over Susquehanna since the 2002-03 season. The River Hawks were the Landmark Conference runners-up this past year.
Sophomore
Alexandre Sannibale and freshman
Jacob Zajdzinski all added two individual wins each for Drew, which also swept the two relays.
Ma touched first in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.82), 200-breaststroke (2:16.35), and 200-IM (2:00.14). He defeated his nearest opponent by over six seconds in the 200-breast.
Sannibale swam to a six-second victory in the 200-butterfly (2:05.79) before leading a 1-2 sweep in the 500-freestyle. With a time of 5:02.37, he edged out freshman
Josh Roberts, who was second in 5:03.55.
Zajdzinski notched winning times of 21.91 in the 50-freestyle in the 48.59 in th 100-freestyle. Roberts added a victory in a very close 200-freestyle (1:48.40), with junior
Jack Mahoney placing second (1:48.83).
Posting additional individual second-place finishes were junior
Garrett Pilkington in the 1000-freestyle (10:39.45), sophomore
Alex Longacre in the 200-backstroke (2:10.03), and sophomore
Matheus Macena in the 100-butterfly (54.54).
Drew led off the meet with a victory in the 200-medley relay, as Macena, freshman
Patrick Nowak, Ma, and Mahoney clocked a 1:38.34 in a close race. The Rangers also closed with a strong showing in the 400-freestyle relay, as Zajdzinski, junior
Ryan Underwood, Roberts, and Mahoney prevailed by over two seconds in 3:17.99.
The Rangers take two weeks off from competition before returning to the pool on Nov. 17, when they host Arcadia University and Elizabethtown College starting at 1 p.m.
