MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's swimming & diving team won 10 of 16 events to land a 154.5-127.5 victory over Catholic University in its season opener on Saturday in Kirby Pool.
Sophomore
Finn Armitt and freshman
Hayden Koh had a hand in four victories apiece for the Rangers, who defeated the five-time defending Landmark Conference champion Cardinals for just the second time in team history but for the second time in as many meetings. Drew also defeated Catholic in the 2019-20 season.
Freshman
Yan Zheng Lew added a pair of wins for the Rangers, who swept both relay events.
Koh made a big splash in his collegiate debut, capturing a trio of individual events. He touched first in both the 100-backstroke (51.86) and 200-backstroke (1:57.19), coming within a second of the school record in both events, while adding an additional victory in the 200-IM (1:59.38). He also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200-medley relay (1:37.38), which also consisted of sophomore
Luke Stevens, Armitt, and senior
Josh Roberts.
Armitt, the reigning Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, captured the 100-butterfly (52.22) and 200-butterfly (2:02.66) while swimming on the victorious 200-medley relay and 400-freestyle relay (3:17.39), which also included junior
Jeffrey Crouse, Stevens, and Roberts.
Lew led from start to finish in winning both the 1,000-freestyle (10:16.23) and 500-freestyle (4:57.12).
Crouse also provided an individual victory, capturing the 200-freestyle in 1:49.78.
The Rangers continue their season on Friday, when they host Montclair State University and Moravian University at 5 p.m.
