MADISON, N.J. - Freshman
Hayden Koh turned in a spectacular showing in the 100-butterfly and the Drew University men's swimming team won six of nine events on the opening day of the 10th annual Ranger Invitational on Friday in F.M. Kirby Pool.
The Rangers have scored 143 points and lead Widener University by six points. Rounding out the standings are Arcadia University (101), the University of Scranton (45), and FDU-Florham (16).
Koh entered the night having already set school records in both butterfly events earlier in the season. On Friday night, he not only lowered his own Drew record in the 100-fly, but he also established a new Landmark Conference and meet record while earning an NCAA B cut with a time of 49.06 seconds. He took 0.42 seconds off the previous conference mark held by Morgan Richter of Goucher College since 2016.
Koh also captured the 50-freestyle with a time of 21.52 while freshman
AJ Muir (200-IM, 1:57.96) and junior
Jeffrey Crouse (200-freestyle, 1:44.25) contributed additional individual victories.
The Rangers also prevailed in a pair of relays while setting meet records in both. The 200-medley squad of Koh, Neal, sophomore
Finn Armitt, and senior
Josh Roberts were timed at 1:34.71 while Koh, Neal, Armitt, and sophomore
Luke Stevens clocked a 3:29.70.
Freshman
Yan Zheng Lew came in second in a nailbiter of a 1,650-freestyle that was decided by less than a second. He was timed at 16:51.43. Muir (400-IM, 4:13.95) and Amitt (100-butterfly, 50.62) each added a runner-up showing while Neal placed third in the 400-IM (4:16.91).Â
