MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's swimming & diving team won six events and broke three school records on the final day of the Ranger Invitational on Saturday in F.M. Kirby Pool.
Drew piled up 288 points to capture its fifth-straight Ranger Invitational title. Widener placed second with 235 points and was followed by Arcadia (220), Scranton (85), and FDU-Florham (27).
For the second day in a row, freshman
Hayden Koh registered an incredible showing for the Rangers. He posted his second NCAA B cut in winning the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:49.08, which currently ranks him 11th in Division III in the event. He also broke the Landmark Conference by fourth-hundredths of a second, lowered his own school record by seven seconds, and set a new meet record as well.Â
Koh also earned an NCAA B cut in winning the 100-fly on Friday, when he also broke Landmark Conference, Drew, and Ranger Invitational records with his time of 49.06. On Saturday, he bettered his time in the event when he posted a 48.93 in a time trial.
Freshman
AJ Muir also capped an impressive weekend on Saturday, as he won two events while breaking one school record. He captured the 100-backstroke in 52.19, then broke the Drew and Ranger Invitational record by winning the 200-back in 1:55.25. He edged the former school and meet record of 1:56.42 set by Michael Ma C'20 in 2018 and finished the weekend with three individual wins.
Junior
Jeffrey Crouse also claimed an individual event on Saturday, winning the 500-freestyle in 4:50.84 for his second victory of the weekend. He did it by winning the second-fastest of three heats in the event, and he led a 1-2-3 Ranger finish in the event. Junior
Harrison Neal was second in 4:51.30 and freshman
Yan Zheng Lew took third in 4:53.64.Â
Drew also earned two relay victories on Saturday, including a school-record showing in the 400-freestyle to close the meet. Koh, Crouse, sophomore
Finn Armitt, and Neal held off a determined Widener rally to win with a time of 3:07.78, topping the former Drew record of 3:08.46 set in 2020. It was also a meet record.
Earlier in the day, Neal, Muir, Crouse, and Roberts took first in the 800-freestyle relay with a time of 7:07.19.
Armitt also finished second in the 200-fly with a time (1:53.61) that also would have broken the school record. Neal added a pair of runner-up showings in the 200-breaststroke (2:13.63) while Lew was third in the 500-free (4:53.64). Crouse placed fourth among 27 competitors in the 100-freestyle (48.02) while sophomore
CJ Talerico and senior
Alexandre Sannibale placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 500-free (5:02.31, 5:03.20). The Rangers added a 6-7-8 finish in the 100-free from Armit (48.20), sophomore
Marco Niro (48.80), and senior
Josh Roberts (48.98).
The Rangers take a break from competition until Jan. 22, when they visit Landmark Conference foe Goucher at 1 p.m.
