Men's Swimming and Diving in Second Place After Day One Of Landmark Championships

Day One Results

BOYDS, Md. - The Drew University men's swimming & diving team won three events and finds itself in second place after Day One of the Landmark Conference Championships Friday evening at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center.

The Rangers have accumulated 197 points and trail only Catholic University (234) in the team standings. Drew is leading Susquehanna (187), Scranton (122), Elizabethtown (105), Goucher (53), Juniata (9), and Moravian (6).

Individually, freshmen Yan Zheng Lew and AJ Muir captured one event apiece. In the 500-freestyle, Lew jumped out to a quick lead and held off a late charge from Catholic's Ren Prescott to win in a school-record time of 4:39.21. He swam over eight seconds faster than he did in prelims and shaved nearly six seconds off the previous school record set by junior Jeffrey Crouse in preliminaries earlier in the day.

Muir prevailed in the 200-IM, clocking a time of 1:56.17 to touch out Susquehanna's Eric Towse, Jr. by five-hundredths of a second.

In the final event of the night, Muir led off for the winning 400-medley relay team that set a school record with a time of 3:27.04. He was followed by junior Harrison Neal, freshman Hayden Koh, and sophomore Finn Armitt, as the group took over two seconds off the previous school record set in 2020.

The Rangers also posted a runner-up showing in the 200-freestyle relay, as senior Jake Zajdzinski, Koh, Muir, and senior Josh Roberts finished just 0.18 seconds behind Susquehanna with a time of 1:24.78.

Neal also earned a medal for the Rangers, taking the bronze in the 500-free with a time of 4:42.00. In the same event, Armitt recorded a fifth-place showing (4:46.80) while Crouse took eighth in 4:50.96.

Zajdzinski and Roberts also earned a spot in the "A" final in the 50-freestyle and tied for sixth with a time of 21.74.

In the "B" final, sophomore CJ Talerico placed 10th in the 500-free (4:49.74), as did classmate Marco Niro in the 50 (21.96). Additionally, sophomore Luke Stevens came in 14th in the 50 (22.42).

Day Two of the championships will take place on Saturday, with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals kicking off at 5:30 p.m.
