NABC All-District Teams
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior guard
Josh Kline of the Drew University men's basketball team has been selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III All-District 5 First Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
In addition, Head Coach
Michael McSloy has been chosen as the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year, earning the first regional COY award in program history.
Also the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year, McSloy was honored after leading Drew to a banner season this past year. The Rangers (24-4) captured the Landmark Conference title with an 85-70 victory over Catholic University to earn the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship tournament. With the win, the team also broke the program record for victories as well as the Landmark Conference record for the longest winning streak (16 games). During the regular season, Drew went 18-0 in Landmark Conference play to become the first men's basketball team to post an undefeated regular season, made even more impressive considering it was only the second year since the conference expanded from eight to 10 teams and 14 to 18 conference games.
Kline becomes just the third NABC All-District selection in program history, following two-time recipients Howard McBurnie Jr. C'23 and Riley Collins C'20. He also joins Collins as only the second All-NABC First Team honoree at Drew, as Collins earned the distinction in 2019 and 2020.
Also a First Team All-Landmark Conference pick, Kline was a starter in all 28 games and led the team in scoring (14.6 ppg) and steals (2.2 spg) while finishing second in assists (3.5 apg) and third in rebounding (5.0 rpg). Among the Landmark Conference leaders, he ended the year second in steals, fifth in assists, ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3), 10th in field-goal percentage (49.3%), 11th in scoring, and 12th in 3-pointers made per game (1.6).
In one of his top performances of the season, Kline posted 16 points and a career-high 12 assists for his first career double-double in Drew's victory over Susquehanna in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Championship. He also recorded a career-high 26 points to go with nine rebounds in a win at Rowan, and he netted 20 points in a victory over Wilkes. In addition, he tied the school record for steals in a game with seven in a win at Elizabethtown.
The All-NABC teams are voted on by NABC-member coaches across the NCAA Division III.
