Klinger’s 33 Leads Rangers Past Knights

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (November 28, 2012) – The Rangers won their second-straight game in Baldwin Gym this evening with a 95-88 victory over Berkeley College (2-4) Drew (2-3) sunk 15, 3-pointers, the second most in one game in program history.

Freshman Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep) missed only two shots, both 3-pointers en route to a game-high 33 points. The first-year guard hit five three-pointers and was 14-of-15 from the free throw line. His 14 made free throws are third most in school history.

Juniors Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) were in double digits for the second-straight games. Glass scored a career-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting while Ford went for 19 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Rangers, who came into the contest ranked second in the Landmark Conference in field goal percentage defense, held the Knights to 46.7 percent shooting from the floor. Berkeley's main source of offense came from Dukens Germain, who netted a team-high 31 points without attempting a 3-point shot. Germain went 12-of-16 from the field and 7-9 from the charity stripe. Issac Robinson and Dontae Jones helped pace the Knight offense adding 25 and 16 points respectively.

Drew never trailed in the contest opening the game on an 8-0 run. After holding a seven-point advantage with 8:29 remaining in the first half, Klinger sparked a 15-4 run by the Rangers by scoring nine of his 31 points for the game. Drew took a 46-31 lead into the halftime break.

After only missing one free throw in the first half, the Rangers struggled from the line in the second, going 13-for-21, keeping the Knights in the game. Berkeley went on a 12-3 run with 5:50 remaining and closed the gap to 85-77 with 1:53 to play. On the next two possessions, Klinger went on to ice the game with four-straight free throws.

The Rangers won the battle on the boards collecting 41 rebounds compared to 31 by the Knights. Drew held a slight edge in the turnover battle had a season-high 21 assists. Sophomore Steve Hydzik (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) had a career-high nine assists in the win.

Drew will open up Landmark Conference play on Saturday when they play Catholic in the second half of a men's and women's doubleheader. The women are scheduled to tip at 1:00 p.m. and the men will follow at approximately 3:30 p.m.
