Glass Nails Three With 1.8 Left to Lift Rangers

Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. (January 16, 2013) – Junior Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key with 1.8 seconds left in the game to propel the Rangers to a 72-69 victory over Scranton (12-4, 4-2 Landmark). The Rangers even their overall record to 8-8 on the year and improve to 2-3 in the Landmark Conference.

Glass netted a career-high 33 points and scored the final eight, Drew points. The junior guard was 13-of-19 from the floor and hit six three-pointers including the final bucket of the night. The win is the first victory in Scranton since 1997, snapping a 15-game losing streak at the Long Center.

Trailing by six with 5:20 remaining in the game, Glass made one of two free throws to make the score 63-58. On the next possession, junior John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) stroked his first three of the ball game to cut the Scranton lead to two with 4:37 left. After a transition layup by the Royals, Ford came up big again on the next time down the floor hitting his second three of the night to make the scored 65-64 with 3:57 to go in the game.

From that point forward it was all Glass. The 6-1 guard gave the Rangers their first lead since the nine minute mark on a layup with just under three minutes remaining. He then gave the Rangers a four-point advantage with his fifth three of the night with 58 seconds left. The Royals tied the game on four free throws by Rosss Danzig, setting the stage for Glass.

Freshman Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep) handed the ball off on the left wing with the score tied at 69 and Glass pulled up just beyond the top of the key. Glass buried three-pointer number six on the night to give the Rangers their second Landmark Conference victory of the season.

Freshman Chris Capelli (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) was the only other player in double figures for Drew, adding 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Klinger and Ford each had 16 points, combining for four, three-pointers.

Danzig and freshman Brendan Boken each had 18 points to lead the Royals. Danzig finished with a double-double, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Rangers will look to improve their position in the Landmark Conference standings on Saturday as they take on third-place, Goucher. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Decker Sports and Recreation Center in Towson, Md.
