Box Score MADISON, N.J. (January 26, 2013) – The Susquehanna men's basketball team (7-12, 3-5 Landmark) hung on to complete the season sweep of the Rangers this afternoon, with a 75-66 win in Baldwin Gym. The Rangers drop their second-straight conference game and fall to 9-10 overall and 3-5 in league play.
Freshman
Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep) shot the ball well for the second-straight game and was the high-man for the Rangers with 17 points. The first-year guard was 5-8 from the field and a blistering 5-6 from three-point range. Freshman transfer
Jason Huelbig (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) came off the bench and chipped in 13 points including a 4-for-4 effort from the free throw line.
The Crusaders, who shot 48 percent from the floor as a team, were led by a pair of double-digit scorers in Brandon Hedley and J.T. Wilson. Hedley scored all 16 of his points in the first half after shooting 6-for-7 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the three-point line. Wilson came off the bench and scored 15 points in 20 minutes on the court.
The first half proved to be all Susquehanna as they owned a 12-point lead at halftime. The Crusaders were powered by a 14-2 run beginning at the 12:39 mark to help them take a 24-15 lead with 9:32 to play in the first. Susquehanna took the largest lead of the half on a three-pointer by Luke Cable with 28 seconds to go in the frame. The Rangers knocked down a pair of free throws before the halftime horn to make the score 43-31 after the first 20 minutes of play.
Two huge stretches for the Rangers got the home team back in the ball game. After 12 straight points beginning at the 14:51 mark, the Rangers pulled within three on a Huelbig jumper in the lane. The Crusaders scored the next nine points to get the lead back up to nine with 9:51 to play in the game.
Klinger sparked a 11-2 run at the 7:25 mark and the Rangers tied the game up at 59 on another Huelbig jumper with 4:05 remaining. The Crusaders however ripped off the next nine points and sunk all 11 free throws in final 2:02 to preserve the victory.
Junior
Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and
Steve Hydzik (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) rounded out the Drew double-digit scorers by each netting 10 points.
The Rangers were outrebounded for the second-straight game, 37-32. The Rangers put forth a stellar effort from the free throw line, draining 18-of-19 from the charity stripe for the game.
Drew will hit the road and travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to square off against Moravian College on Wednesday evening. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
