Big Second Half Leads Rangers to First Conference Win

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (January 9, 2013) – The Drew men's basketball team evened its record to 7-7 and improved to 1-2 in the Landmark Conference with a 78-54 victory over Moravian (9-4, 2-2) this evening in Baldwin Gym. Junior Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) netted a career-high 28 points to lead the Drew attack.

Glass exploded for 22 of his 28 points in the second half. The 6-1 guard hit a career-high seven 3-pointers and collected four rebounds on the night. To complement Glass, sophomore Steve Hydzik (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was nearly perfect from the floor and dumped in a career-best 14 points, all in the second half of play. Hydzik was 6-for-7 from the field and had a game-high seven assists coming off the bench.

The Greyhounds struggled mightily in the second half, making just two of their 11 3-point attempts in the final 20 minutes. Moravian was 3-for-17 from downtown for the game. Garrett Johnson was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line and scored a team-high 11 points for the visiting Greyhounds.

Drew outscored Moravian 50-29 over the final 20 minutes and came out of the locker room firing. With just a three-point lead at the half, Glass hit back-to-back threes to spark an 11-0 run beginning at the 18:38 mark. After free throws by Johnson with 16:30 remaining, the Rangers rattled off the next 11 points to cap a 22-2 run and open up a 50-30 lead with 13 minutes left.

The Greyhounds could not recover from the monster run and would only come as close as 14 points before the Rangers ran away with their first conference victory of the season. The Rangers are now one of five teams with two or more losses and tied for third place in the league standings.

The Rangers will continue with conference play this weekend when they host Juniata College in Baldwin Gym. The men will be the second half of a men's/women's doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
