Box Score MADISON, N.J. (February 9, 2012) – Another men's basketball season and another season spilt for Goucher (9-14, 3-9 Landmark) and Drew (6-16, 4-8 Landmark). The Gophers staged second half comeback, defeating the Rangers, 61-57, evening the all-time series at six. The two teams who first met with the formation of the Landmark Conference have split every year since the 2007-08 season.
Freshman
Jason Huelbig (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) led the Rangers with 13 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the free throw line. Classmate
Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Prep) was the only other Ranger in double figures, netting 11 points coming off the bench.
The Gophers had a quartet of double-digit scorers, Julian Livingston who recorded a double-double. His 15 points and 10 rebounds were both game-highs. Troy DeShields, Richard Harris and Trae Lindsay all came off the bench and got in double figures. Deshields netted 11 points and Richard Harris scored 10 while Lindsay added 10.
The Rangers owned a 34-21 lead going into halftime thanks to a Klinger three in the closing seconds. The second half proved to be all Goucher, as they outscored the Rangers 40-23 over the final 20 minutes. The Rangers were outrebounded for the game, pulling down 26 boards compared to 47 by the Gophers.
Goucher scored 17 of the last 24 points in the game and scored 16 points off second chance opportunities. Aiding the second half comeback was a 6-for-13 effort from the free throw by the Rangers, who missed four freebees in the final 2:10.
The Rangers will be on the road for the final two games, traveling to Merchant Marine on Wednesday and Juniata next Saturday. Tip in King's Point on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
