Big Three Lead Rangers Passed Gophers

Box Score Madison, N.J. (January 25, 2014) – The Drew University men's basketball team (9-8, 3-3) defeated Goucher College (7-10, 2-4), 79-74 this afternoon in Baldwin Gym. The Rangers picked up their third conference win of the season, moving into the third spot in the conference standings.

Senior guard John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) led the Rangers in scoring with 25 points. Ford was 9-18 from the floor, connecting on a career-high seven 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Mike Klinger (Franklin Park, N.J./Rutgers Preparatory School) continued his consecutive games of 15 points or more streak to 11 games scoring 19 points for the Rangers. Klinger added a season-high seven assists in the Drew victory.

Goucher started the game on an 11-2 run spanning the first three minutes of the game. The Gophers would continue their hot streaking jumping out to a 37-30 with 5:40 left to play in the first half. Drew ended the half on a 9-1 run pulling ahead 39-38, a lead they would take into the half.

The Rangers continued their streak from the first half, scoring the first seven points of the second half and extending its lead to 56-44 with 12:02 remaining. The Rangers would never relinquish that advantage. The Gophers would cut the lead to three, at 70-67 with 2:23 left to play.

Goucher was lead by the team's leading scorer Julian Livingston. Livingston recorded his first double-double of the season grabbing 10 rebounds for the Gophers. Jesse Mondry added 14 points shooting 4-8 from behind the 3-point arc.

Sophomore guard Jason Huelbig (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) added 15 points for the Rangers in the victory. Classmate Ozan Yucetepe (Bursa, Turkey/Westfield (N.J.)) scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds, in 29 minutes off the bench for the Rangers.

Drew continues play with a game on Wednesday January 29, as they travel to Long Island for a conference contest with Merchant Marine.
