Box Score Madison, N.J. (February 5, 2014) – The Drew University men's basketball team (10-10, 4-5) dropped a tough game to Moravian (10-10, 5-5) tonight in Baldwin Gym. A big second half run gave Moravian a, 68-60 victory.
Sophomore guard
Jason Huelbig (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) led the Rangers in scoring with 13 points in his 20
th start of the season. The Ranger guard also grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in his 30 minutes of action. Classmate
Kevin-Michael Miller (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) joined Huelbig as the only Rangers in double figures scoring 12 points for Drew in the loss.
The Rangers got the scoring started with a three-pointer from senior
John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) at the 18 minute mark of the first half. The two teams played a virtually even first half that saw six ties and five lead changes. Sophomore
Ozan Yucetepe (Bursa, Turkey/Westfield (N.J.)) scored the final three points of the half for Drew, giving them a 24-23 lead entering the locker rooms.
Sophomore
Chris Capelli (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) got the scoring started in the second half, hammering home a monster dunk giving Drew a 26-23 lead. The Greyhounds would counter with a 23-7 run putting them up 46-33 with just over 11 minutes left in the game. With seven minutes left in the game, trailing 50-40, Drew opened a 13-2 run giving them a 53-52 lead with 2:53 left in the game. The Greyhounds closed the game on a 16-7 run outlasting the Rangers by a final of 68-60.
Greyhounds guard Izel Dickerson scored a game-high 22 points for Moravian. Dickerson scored the final nine points for the Greyhounds going a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. Blake English recorded his fourth double-double of the season scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for Moravian in the win.
Capelli scored nine points for Drew in his 20
th start of the season. The junior forward grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds for the Rangers in the loss. Ford scored seven points in his 37 minutes of action also grabbing eight rebounds.
At 4-5 in league play Drew sits in fourth in the conference standings holding the tie-breaker over Susquehanna. The Rangers continue conference play on Saturday February 8, with a rematch against Catholic at 2:00 p.m. in Baldwin Gym.
