Dr. Harold Seymour interviewed for admission to Brothers College with Dean Pearson Tolley in 1930. One of the first questions he asked was if Drew had a baseball team. Growing up in Brooklyn, serving as bat-boy at Ebbets Field, and playing baseball in the '20s, Harold came to Drew with a great love and knowledge of the game. He was destined to be part of baseball history and, in fact, was a member of the first varsity Drew baseball team in 1931.

During that first baseball season Coach Sherman Plato "Doc" Young took ill and was hospitalized. After an interim coach came and went, the team elected Harold as their first captain and on-field manager. Although the majority of the first team's players had no real baseball background, they did manage one victory in eight outings against all established teams.

Throughout his Drew career Harold, as team captain, helped the team with such fundamentals as bunting, sliding, and pitching. A first baseman, Harold hit a career .425 and still holds the best single-season average with .514 in 1933. Harold was also active off the baseball diamond as a writer for the Acorn, an editor of the Oak Leaves, a member of the first student athletics committee, and a council representative in the student government.
